The Phoenix House is an 18 month Trnsitional Shelter Program that provides services for up to six men. This homeless program is one program of the parent organization, The Phoenix Group of Centralia - co-founded by a Disabled Marine Corps Veteran and a retired Life Skiills Coordinator. Our motto we believe in new beginnings, offers housing along with Vocational, Educational & Life Skills training in a homelike atmosphere. Participants must be over 18, observe a set curfew, and house rules, commit to staying substance free and volunteer in the Senior Assitance Program which provides free or low cost lawn care for Seniors and the Disabled. We work homeless and Disabled Veterans to link them with appropriate resources. We also work with temp agencies, employers and Kaskaskia College so you must be willing to actively seek employment, or participate in GED, college or vocational classes as needed. Our partners include the Covenant Church Group, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, Southtown Shalom Community, and Southern Illinois Reentry Group. Our parent organization the Phoenix Group Foundation of Centralia provides free computer classes, and tutoring. In addition to low cost business assistance to new entrepreneurs, or those needing help with grant writing, The Phoenix Group is a registered agency with the President's office on Voluteer and Civic Participation. * The 18 month program is currently full but there is a waiting list. 2-3 day stays are avaialable for those in need of Emergency Shelter.
