Description: Services for women with children only.

Lucy's Hearth has a wide variety of programs and services including:

Our Emergency Shelter Program is located at 913 West Main Road, in Middletown, Rhode Island.  Ten mothers and their children may be accommodated at any one time in the ten bedrooms, which include beds, a bureau, a sink and vanity, and a closet.  The families share use of a kitchen, television room, dining room, playground, bathrooms and a learning center.
Eligibility requirements for mothers include: be at least 18 years old and have a minor child in custody, and be clean and sober for at least six months. If a mother is a victim of domestic violence within the previous six months she will be referred to a domestic violence shelter.
Before acceptance into the emergency shelter, mothers
 need to complete a telephone screening (if a mother is placed on a waiting list she will be instructed to call the program once per week to check in);
 should respond within 24 hours to a call from Lucy's Hearth that there is an opening;
 must provide various documents, including birth certificates and other identification, health insurance cards if any, and financial and housing history records.
After an opening is identified, the staff gathers general information from each mother, gives a tour of the shelter and answers questions.
Emergency Shelter services include:
 crisis intervention,
 life-skills group,
 a daily goal-setting group,
 case management,
 parenting skills groups,
 financial literacy education,
 preparation for testing for a General Equivalency Degree (GED),
 mental health treatment,
 job readiness skills development,
 nutrition classes,
 after-school homework help,
 art classes,
 fitness classes,
 transportation to appointments,
 referrals to outside providers for education, training, medical care and additional mental health treatment.
Residents must participate in shelter services.

Transitional Apartment Program Lucy’s Hearth has apartments in various Newport County locations. The program assists mothers and their children to overcome barriers to living on their own.
To be eligible for this program, mothers must have successfully completed the Emergency Shelter Program, and be working or going to school.
Transitional apartment program participants will continue to participate in life skills education as well as case management in their apartment on a weekly basis. If needed, mothers and their children may still return to the emergency shelter program to participate in programs and services.

Permanent Apartment Program Lucy's Hearth provides permanent subsidized housing through the 'RhodeHome' program from Rhode Island Housing. These apartments are available for Lucy's Hearth residents who require long-term stabilization services.
