Description: The Grayson County Shelter offers homeless families, women and single men over 45 a safe, clean, healthy, physical and social environment as they work toward their goals of self sufficiency. The GCS also offers support and encouragement to clients in accessing external social services while seeking employment, housing and self-reliance.

The Grayson County Shelter is open 24 hours a day, seven days per week.

All services are provided free of charge to the clients. We provide private family rooms in a clean, safe, family environment.

Eligibility Requirements Grayson County Shelter
Admissions Policy: The Grayson County Shelter currently accepts the following:

    Men over 45
    Single Women Over 23
    Married Couples
    Families Restrictions Apply To: No Single Men Under Age 45
    No Minors Without Parents
    No Admission Without I.D. (State Issued Photo ID - Social Security Card)
    No Unregistered Guests
    Clear Police Checks
    No illegal drug or alcohol use
    No tobacco use inside the building
    No violent behavior or past charges
    No charges of any kind against a child
    Follow written rules of the shelter

Grayson County Shelter provides several services for the homeless population. Our services aim to provide structure for the families and individuals at the shelter. Our Shelter offers the following to our residents:

        A safe, clean and secure temporary home while searching for jobs and housing
        A telephone number and address to use during employment searches
        Private rooms for families so they can remain together
        Meals, personal care items and clothing
        A minimum 21 day stay allowing opportunity to save income and return to self-reliance
        On-site washer and dryer facilities
        A fenced playground for resident's children
        Referrals for social services and other agencies

Donation Requests by Grayson County Homeless Shelter: The following donations are always welcomed at the shelter: -Meat -Canned meats -Canned vegetables -Snacks (Granola bars, chips, beef jerky, crackers of all kinds, etc.) -Pasta and pasta sauce -Clothing in all sizes, especially 1X-5X (scrubs, flip flops, sweatpants, t-shirts, shoes, socks) -Paper towels -Toilet paper -New toothbrushes and toothpaste -Deodorant -Tampons/pads -Laundry detergent -Dish soap -Lotion -Diapers -Baby wipes -Sanitizing wipes -Trash bags (13 and 55 gallon) -Ziploc bags -Coffee, coffee creamer, sugar -Breakfast foods (Poptarts, individual packs of oatmeal, pancake mix, maple syrup) -Seasonings and flavor (garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, vanilla flavor, almond extract)

Many of these shelters now have waiting lists. Please call before going to them. Many waiting lists are very long. Shelters and service also go out of business.
