Gannett House offers emergency housing for families. To access Gannett House, you must first visit the Dutchess County Department of Community and Family Services to request housing assistance.

This place is not acceptable. My Gandchildren(ages 1,3 and 13 have been sitting on the floor to eat as there are no chairs in the room they're in. The diningroom is closed due to Covid19 so they have to go get their meals and bring them to their room. There is a broken mirror in the bathroom ready to come down off the wall and no one is doing anything about it. It's a safety issue and if someone is in that bathroom when it falls the injuries could be life threatening. There is a severe bee issue at the playground and children are getting stung. There's garbage always all over the picnic tables left by the residents. You have to pay to do your laundry there and it's not cheap. They're homeless as it is so how can they possibly afford that? There is a family of 4 there and the woman told me she pays a minimum of $30.00 a week to do most of her laundry but she never gets it all done at once because she has to budget what little money she has! The rooms are not child friendly at all. Who puts a carbon monoxide detector at a walking 1 year old's eye level. They don't have cribs and babies sleep in pack and plays until 2 years old they said. The bottoms sag so those children will suffer back problems later. Some of the staff have horrible attitudes and maintenence is awfully busy because no matter the emergency you have to fill out a work order and 3 weeks go by and nothing gets done. Sometimes your work order gets "misplaced". There's no refrigerators in the rooms so for families with babies they have to walk down to the office to get their milk. Even in the middle of the night. A few days ago there was a man passed out at the front door and some residents smoke pot in their rooms and the smell is extremely strong. It makes my Grandchildren sick sometimes. Its in the hallways and even seeps through the walls into peoples rooms. Staff knows about it but does nothing about it. If this place can't provide basic needs for chidren and provide safety then chidren shouldn't be there. If this was a private citizen's home CPS would be all over this but because it's a shelter children don't matter?
