Homeless Emergency Project, Inc. (HEP)

HEP is a registered 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. Our mission is to provide homeless and very low-income individuals and families with housing, food, clothing, and support services necessary to obtain self-sufficiency and improved quality of life.

As one of the oldest and largest providers of housing and support services to the homeless in Pinellas County, HEP has been helping to build hope and transforming the lives of families and individuals who are homeless since 1986.

WHAT WE DO

At HEP we offer an array of services to empower homeless individuals and families to end their cycle of homelessness, increase self-sufficiency, and improve health outcomes.

We provide 300 beds of supportive housing: emergency and transitional housing for the temporarily homeless and permanent supportive housing for disabled individuals and families.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, supportive housing is proven to have powerful impacts, ending chronic homelessness for individuals who may also be living with a disability, mental illness, or an addiction.

Supportive housing benefits people who shuffle between shelters, the streets, and hospital emergency rooms and gives them the tools needed to become self-sustaining. Supportive housing saves public funds and helps to end the vicious cycle of homelessness.

It is wonderful to have something out there to help the homeless. There is not much to offer in most places. So thankful you are there for them.

Almost everyday since last year I been calling HEP for help and been swearing up and down they are full every time. I have so many medical issues going on right now and I need help. I am disabled and don’t know if I am being discriminated when they here me on the phone. I am so tired. Every can’t be full. I been calling since last year September 30, 2019 and can’t get help. Yes I am single disabled woman who is not working because of my disability and been trying to get disability to approve me since yesterday. I need help. I feel some of these people who is in charge needs to be homeless for a week or a month to see how it feels to be in that person shoes. I am tired. I have Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, have issues with my legs, my back and supposed to on a breathing machine and can’t get no help. I am not working not because I don’t want to work because of my health. Please help me solve my problems. Tell me what solutions will you help me with. It’s almost a year now I feeling like I am being discriminated now. As your self what would Jesus do? Thank you, JG
