Programs:
1. Operation Bootstrap: Provides housing, meals counseling for men facing homelessness. The shelter can house up to 70 men and the average stay is about two weeks. Most move on from here, but many graduate to our Transitional Housing Program.

2. Transitional Housing: The Salvation Army's Transitional Housing program is a more intensive program than Operation Bootstrap. The program requires a 6-month commitment. Clients are expected to maintain full-time employment, pay a minimal amount of rent, save money and work towards personal goals. Participants have a place to stay, meals and the 24-hour support of our staff.
The program strives to help those who want to regain control of their lives by providing men and women with the necessary support.The men's shelter has room for up to 48 men. The women's shelter can house 18 women. Last year 148 women and 231 men participated in the program.For more information call (865) 525-9401 anytime.

3. Women's Shelter: The Joy D. Baker Center serves women with or without children affected by domestic violence and also serves as a shelter for homeless women with children. Safety is a top priority in our monitored, secure facility. In addition to providing housing and meals, our 24-hour staff serves as counselors and liaisons with both the court and the school systems and can assist with job placement or referrals to other agencies.The shelter has 6 units than can accommodate up to 28 people. The center provided shelter for 120 women and 145 children last year.

  2. An utter nightmare. The staff does their best to help but if one has autism or ptsd it's impossible to sleep.

    This is a last resort but sadly very few (if any) options exist in Knoxville area.
