Is this a safe shelter to stay in?

  1. Mostly it is. Staff are watchful and break up conflicts quickly, although I watched certain staff jump on the wrong person consistently. I don't think that people working in shelters like this really understanding the people they are 'helping'. Some people are prey, some are predators, and often certain staff attacked the prey person when a predator was provoking them. Most of the staff there really DO care about you, and this is one shelter where people are treated more like humans than most shelters I've been in. It's by far one of the best shelters I've been in. Not perfect, but they mostly have their heart in the right place. The one thing that was the biggest problem for me with safety issues was that they put men in the female dorm. I am a rape and sodomy survivor. That was hugely threatening to me, that is an unacceptable situation. Period.
