SOS

Food Pantry: Hours:Monday to Friday10am to 5pm, Closed 12:30p-1:30p for Lunch

The SOS Foundation food pantry is the first program that started the Foundation, growing into the largest food pantry in South Florida supplying over 1,800,000 pounds of produce a year. It has been a staple program and is what allowed us to grow into a strong force in helping our community. The pantry has many other services besides food, such as clothing and household goods, referrals, and assistance in applying for benefits.

FOOD:
The Star of the Sea Outreach Mission is a certified food pantry that has served as much as 87,000 pounds of life-saving emergency food bags in a single month. The Mission stocks a variety of foods that represent a well-balanced diet and specific foods for persons who require special diets. Our goal is to provide approximately 70,000 pounds of food, monthly.

 CLOTHING & HOUSEHOLD ITEMS:
All day long, generous individuals and businesses drop off bags of donated, serviceable clothing and household items. These items are then carefully sorted by volunteers, with the clothing washed if necessary, and then hung on racks and made available to those in need. Thousands of items per week are distributed this way.

 REFERRALS:
The Star of the Sea Outreach Mission also provides referral services. We maintain an extensive list of other organizations and agencies who provide social services and assistance for people with special needs.

 OTHER SERVICES:
The Star of the Sea Mission provides access to apply for Food Stamps, Temporary Cash Assistance, Medicaid and other services as are needed and appropriate. We have collected and redistributed over 40 tons of clothing, furniture, bed linens, and other household items donated by individuals, local businesses, and the U.S. Navy, in our first four years of operation. The Star of the Sea Mission provides one-way bus tickets to recently released inmates who have been released from the Monroe County Jail who request to relocate from Key West to another location within the continental United States.

Community Kitchen
The SOS Community Kitchen is one of a kind because it's not an ordinary community kitchen. This program is geared towards providing after school programs and daycare centers with low-income children with nutritious meals and snacks by utilizing over 40,000 pounds of fresh produce each month.  With our community kitchen being able to supply these nutritious meals to children, we are not only relieving hunger but increasing the quality of life for children in our community. Currently, our program is distributing meals to the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, Bahama Music Festival and Sunbeam Christian School, with the initiative to add in more sites for both children and the elderly in the county.
