Description: Operation First Step was created after the closing of one of Rhode Island’s largest temporary shelters. To fill the void with a more effective solution, the organization collaborated with the State and other partners to develop a new comprehensive and coordinated system of smaller, community based short term housing options. House of Hope CDC’s First Step program, catering to both men and women, and provides a higher level of case management and support with dignity not found in the typical night-to night shelter. Currently, our Women’s First Step program provides transitional housing for 5 homeless women. Our men’s First Step program currently provides transitional housing for 12 homeless men. We operate our First Step program in North Providence and Providence locations.
