Operation First Step was created after the closing of one of Rhode Islands largest temporary shelters. To fill the void with a more effective solution, the organization collaborated with the State and other partners to develop a new comprehensive and coordinated system of smaller, community based short term housing options. House of Hope CDCs First Step program, catering to both men and women, and provides a higher level of case management and support with dignity not found in the typical night-to night shelter. Currently, our Womens First Step program provides transitional housing for 5 homeless women. Our mens First Step program currently provides transitional housing for 12 homeless men. We operate our First Step program in North Providence and Providence locations.
