This is a most excellent, effective, empowering and innovative program. As an employee of YWCA in the mid-1990s I for a time was stationed in the Aloha Inn to start an Employment Services Program. My office was literally in what had once been a linen closet of the hotel turned homeless transition center. This program truly provides a hand up rather than a hand out and serves those who truly are ready to make a positive change in their lives and who are willing to go through the requirements of staying there that include getting into treatment if needed, saving money, and contributing to the weekly maintenance of the place as well as being in meetings to vote on matters affecting everyone. This should become a nationwide model program and more attention should be paid to this program design nationally because it works.
