Description: Shelter is a thermal shelter run from November - March annually.
Low barrier, provision of evening meals, breakfast, hygiene items, clothing, obtaining identifications, DD214's, birth certificates, assistance with getting people back to family members if stranded in Newport News. Employment specialist on site 3 nights per week, housing resources and placement assistance, food stamp assistance and sign up, coats and other clothing needed for daily changes and to keep warm. Assistance with obtaining prescription medications when needed.
Referrals for special needs for health concerns.

Donation Requests by PORT Emergency Winter Shelter: Socks, rain/wind breaker coats, face cloths, towels, sweaters, sweat pants, steel toed boots, jeans, small to 4 XL mens...(we find women wear men's clothing to layer). Financial donations specified for Greyhound tickets to get persons home to family members.
