IM Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless

Full service shelter for all includes medical dental vision and behavioral health care.

Sulzbacher Center offers a stable environment for homeless men, women and children. For families, individual dorm rooms allow parents and children to live together as they find their way home. Between sixty and ninety children call the center home on any given day.

Along with a bed, a case manager is assigned to every resident of the Sulzbacher Center. Residents work with case managers one-on-one to develop a plan that meets their particular needs. While the average stay at the center is three months, residents may stay longer if their circumstances require it. Regular case management meetings ensure that residents stay on track. Our program restores stability to the lives of the men, women and children who come to us for help.

All new individuals and families applying for shelter must be residents of Duval, Clay, Nassau, St. Johns or Baker county for at least six months before entering shelter at the Sulzbacher Center. Proof of residency is required.

Here are the steps you need to take when applying for shelter.

Come to the Center's downtown office located at 611 E. Adams St. Jacksonville, FL 32202.

When you arrive ask for one of our intake coordinators and they will provide you with our intake screening form and background check.

Make sure you bring some form if I.D., preferably a drivers license.

If you are planning to enter shelter with your children please remember to bring copies of each child's birth certificate.

Once you fill out these forms you will be placed on our waiting list for shelter. Wait time varies but can be expected to last around two weeks or longer for single men and women. For families with children the wait time is typically longer and can take up to four months.

All spaces are given on a first come first served basis. The only exceptions are given to families without shelter.

Men and women applying for shelter should come to the Center at 1:00 pm every day to determine if there is vacancy. Families will be called if there is space available.
