I used bohos services for years. It was nice to have space to sleep away from police, who would wake us up at 2 or 3 in the morning with guns drawn and flashlights in our faces so we could not see them just the glare of the gun and the metal on their body like thier badges. Like they were afraid of us. Ogre used to ask them if they would be in good mood if woken up hours into sleeping at their home. Because of the rediculous restrictions like curfew and location to a strip club and other things I never wanted to go to the shelter, but boho was always in a church, and frequently we were surrounded by those I thought were good people and neghborhoods like we were a part of a community rather than market item for sex. I enjoyed many of the meals and movies put on, and at one point started volunteering for them. However white horse, the guy who said I could work insisted I could with my daughter as I was only looking for jobs I could do with her at the time. On a night recorded at 3°f I was kicked out of the shelter with my daughter when I was there to work because he changed his mind. I attempted to speak to the director and board with no response. Placing my daughter and I in a dangerous position, with no offer for a ride or alternative solution. I do not think given these experiences that this organization was run by good people. Given that I was told I could work with my daughter, he should have offered some solution like a hotel room, or something. Starting off for three weeks unpaid didn't aid me either in a long term solutions to care for my family either. He never should have offered me a job, telling me after coming to work on another night prior that I wouldn't be paid for the first 3 weeks. I question the motives of staff and the humility of the board members to transparently or privately admit a mistake and admit they and their staff knowingly put my daughter and I in danger.

Our Mission is to meet, as a community, the emergency needs for basic shelter and care not served because of gaps in the Boulder support network. One of those gaps is a Women’s program to give safe private refuge. BOHO is piloting such a program to help the female homeless population. Another such program is Summer Sleep which faith base congregations open their grounds for the homeless to sleep in a safe legal manor. Both these programs have been a huge success to date.
