Description: The Emergency Shelter provides homeless adults and families temporary shelter and meals. On-site programs, Shelter staff, and community volunteers help clients access resources for independent living.

Starting as a shelter for men only, GCS has evolved into an emergency shelter for men, women, and children; a permanent supportive housing program for those who are disabled; and an emergency assistance program that aims to aims to divert people from homelessnss and/or to re-house homeless people as quickly as possible. GCS helps people turn their lives around by giving them hope and desire for a better quality of life…365 days per year.

The Emergency Shelter provides homeless adults and families temporary shelter and meals. On-site programs, Shelter staff, and community volunteers help clients access resources for independent living. The program emphasis is to help clients set short-term goals that will equip them for relocation into a stable environment upon exiting the Shelter. Maximum length of occupancy is four months with options extending to ten months for eligible program participants.
- 78 bed capacity: 50 men, 28 women and children (housed separately) filled on a first come, first served basis
- Structured communal living arrangement including assigned chores
- 24-hour staffing, open seven days per week
- Crisis intervention
- Specific referral processes exist for hospital patient discharges and inmate releases
- Case management assessment involving community resource networking with the Employment Security Commission, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Work First, Legal Services, Mental Health services, Social Security Administration, Public Health services and others.
