This place was a life line for my family. We had norhing left but some clothes in a shopping cart. They picked us up feed us, housed us, gave my children caring people who could give them what I emotionally could not. They supported us physically and emotionally. They help us get services and jobs and an apartment to start over. I do not know where we would be without them. Our family would have never made it together. We are together and we are thriving because of you.

Description: We provide interim housing for families experiencing homelessness.
70 homeless families receive housing and support services at La Posada each year, on their way to permanent housing.

La Posada seeks to place families who are experiencing homelessness on to independent and permanent housing within 120 days. The program strives to assist families in becoming self-sufficient so that they can obtain and maintain permanent housing.

La Posada is made unique by the comprehensive network of supportive services it offers, a factor which ensures maximum participation and a high success rate. The program provides program- related childcare, transportation vouchers, food. Supportive services include life skills education, counseling, nutrition education, and financial management to help families regain and sustain self-sufficiency.

Participants at La Posada also have access to the following services: counseling, nutrition education, domestic violence intervention, financial management, food, clothing, transportation, relocation assistance, and public assistance advocacy. Community partnerships for referrals to alcohol/drug treatment and medical services are coordinated through nearby community health centers and hospitals. In addition, monthly workshops help families deal with a variety of other concerns ranging from financial planning and legal related issues.

Upon initial contact, families referred to La Posada must meet certain eligibility criteria prior to entrance into the program:

    Must provide verification of homelessness
    Must meet Income Poverty Guidelines
Applicant must be an adult over the age of 18 with minor children

At La Posada, once a family is determined to be eligible and has entered the program, they work with a Family Support Case Manager. As a family-centred program, La Posada provides services that are designed to identify the unique needs of each individual family through a service plan. Case managers advocate on behalf of the participants as needs are identified in order to help them become self-sufficient and assist families as they apply for benefits acquisition and other necessary services. During their temporary stay at La Posada, each participant has access to on-site supportive services that include food, clothing from donations, transportation vouchers, babysitting, pre-vocational training/job readiness, ESL, and financial literacy.
