Do you have any advice for those wanting to stay at this shelter?

  2. Start thinking of your way out.

  3. Beware you will be staying with all sorts of people with all sorts of issues. There are regular people in the shelter but also many with mental issues and many formerly incarcerated people, including pedophiles.

  4. Don't expect expert help here. It's basically run by idiots many of whom are apathetic to doing more than watching their mobile phones. I doubt any have a real good education or a deep sincerity of improving the shelter. Honestly most staff probably were in jail at some time or in the shelter itself. No quality here.

How long can you stay here?

User Answers

  1. Some get housing in a few months while others stay for years it seems. Getting from the shelter to a voucher housing(sect 8 or other types) is all about your own effort.

  2. As long as you don't cause problems they probably want you to stay for as long as possible because the US/NY government pays $4000/mo for you to be there. They like that and would rather have you stay there than help you get a housing voucher and spend less per month. It's all about WestCop getting money and doing as little as possible.

Well, this place needs lots of improvement. People living here don't feel they are getting help and direction towards escaping the shelter. People staying there are told they are 'clients' when entering. Social Services of NY and US government pay the shelter's managing group over $4,000 a month for each person living there so you can imagine that they take in millions and millions each year. Sadly, many would be happy to be housed in a cheap studio which would cost less than the amount DSS pays to the shelter. Well, it's about money and jobs for those running the shelter and probably DSS staff who also work there part time. It's all corruption and the shelter isn't much better than 3rd world quality. The manager's and higher staff at the organizations are not much more than bumbling morons who don't appear to know anything about the issues going on at the shelter.
