LA Cares is a small, independent organization, providing help to the needy of Los Alamos County. Financial aid, usually with rent or utility payments, is available once in a 12-month period.
LA Cares also offers supplemental food assistance, with distributions on the second Thursday and Friday of every month at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church (2390 North Road).
Thursday distributions: 7:00pm-8:00pm
Friday distributions: 10:30 am to 12:30pm.
To receive a food box, one must register in advance, no later than the Sunday prior to the 2nd Friday. Required information is identified on the answering machine: one must provide name, address, telephone number, number in family, special food needs (and/or food allergies) and need for pet food or baby items. Fresh produce, limited baked goods and frozen meats, and miscellaneous non-perishables (such as cake mixes and salad dressing) are available at the distribution in addition to the prepared box.
