Tedford Housing

Tedford Housing works together with people in their communities to find lasting solutions to the challenges of homelessness.
We provide shelter, housing, and services that empower adults, children and families in need.
Tedford Housing believes that everyone deserves to have a safe and affordable home. Over the years, the organization has evolved from providing emergency shelter to adults  to offering shelter, supported housing and homeless prevention services for adults, families and teens.

Adult shelter for single men and women over age 18
The emergency adult shelter houses up to 16 men and women in separate dorm-style rooms at 49 Cumberland Street in Brunswick, Maine. We have handicap accessible rooms for 1-2 people. The adult shelter is open from 3:30pm 8:00am Monday through Friday and all day on Saturdays and Sundays, 365 days a year.  While the shelter is often full, you may check for availability by stopping by the shelter or calling 207-729-1161, #104 after 3:30pm on weekdays or any time on the weekends.
Shelter guests are provided breakfast and dinner each day. A washer and dryer are available during shelter hours. Guests also work with a Tedford case manager to seek options for permanent housing and to access other services as needed. Those staying at the shelter must agree to and abide by shelter rules and help with general maintenance of the facility.
Individuals who are homeless, but are not staying at the shelter, may also seek assistance from a case manager. Call 207-729-1161, #105 to see if our case manager can work with you.
Family shelter for adults and children, including at least one parent
Families, including at least one parent and one or more children, are provided temporary shelter at 34 Federal Street in Brunswick, Maine in 6 private apartments. Due to the very limited number of apartments at the family shelter, Tedford staff maintains a waiting list for families seeking access to the shelter. Contact the family shelter for more information or to put your name on the waiting list at 207-729-1161 #113.
Families at the family shelter have their own bathrooms and kitchens and access to coin-operated laundry. Guests at the family shelter are responsible for providing their own meals and maintaining their apartments. They are also required to follow shelter rules and work with a Tedford case manager on a plan to access permanent housing.

Supported Housing
Those who face homelessness often deal with overwhelming stress in their lives. Many also combat physical and / or mental health challenges. Our long-term goal is to place people in permanent, affordable housing.
Tedford Housing manages six supported housing apartment complexes with a total of 37 units for previously homeless individuals and families. Tenants pay subsidized rent and are required to follow the rules of the building. A case manager is available to assist the tenants in obtaining needed services and to advocate for clients on an individualized basis.
