YMCA - CENTRAL CONNECTICUT COAST Emergency Family Shelter

Emergency shelters for families; intake hours: Call first to see if there is a waiting list.The shelters provides lunch and dinner and cold breakfast items.
To be eligible: Families including pregnant women; Residents who have left the shelter cannot return to the shelter for two years after leaving, unless they lose their housing due to a fire or other disaster.

Fee:Set fee of 20% of income
Refers people to 2 different shelters: Brooks St: 40 beds

Clinton Ave: 70 beds

Family Shelters

Brooks StreetThe two-story, Brooks Street Emergency Shelter is located on the East Side of Bridgeport and is the home to one of the two Alpha Community Services YMCA  Families-In-Transition program sites.

The Families-In-Transition program operates the largest emergency shelter for families in Connecticut. Clients live in this facility for sixty to ninety days. ACS Y Case Managers provide on-site social services and House Managers provide 24-hour supervision.

Clinton Avenue

The Clinton Avenue Shelter is comprised of two three-story buildings with six apartments in each building that serve as emergency housing for families. The Emergency Shelter is located on the West End of Bridgeport, the second site for the Families-In-Transition program. The shelter provides the opportunity for twelve homeless families to live in an apartment setting with their entire family for sixty to ninety days. ACS Y provides a Case Manager who conducts shelter home visits and has an office at 387 Clinton Avenue.
