Fort Smith Children's Emergency Shelter

Youth facility, boys and girls. can stay from 30 - 60 days


The Children's Emergency Shelter houses children who have been removed from the custody of their guardian(s) by child welfare authorities. A child's time here includes:

Stays from one to 45 days

Food, clothing, and toiletries

Transportation to and from school

Transportation to and from appointments

Life skills guidance

Social activities

After-school tutors

Field trips to local entertainment and parks



Referrals to Children's Emergency Shelter come from:

Department of Human Services

Comprehensive Juvenile Services

Juvenile court

Law enforcement agencies

Private therapists and counselors

Inter-agency agreements
