The Mission Of Forgotten Harvest Is To Relieve Hunger In The Detroit Metropolitan Community By Rescuing Surplus Perishable And Prepared Food And Donating It To Emergency Food Providers.Forgotten Harvest Is The Only Food Rescue Organization Serving The Metro Detroit Area. For The Past Eight Years Forgotten Harvest Has Increased Its Annual Distribution Of Prepared And Perishable Foods From 1 Million Pounds In 2001 And In 2008 To A Record Of 9.5 Millions Pounds. With A Fleet Of 20 Refrigerated Trucks On The Road Six Days A Week (Monday Through Saturday), Servicing Wayne, Macomb And Oakland Counties, We Are Able To Rescue Fresh Meat, Fruits And Vegetables, Dairy Products, Fruit Juice And Baked Goods. These Products Are Delivered Free Of Charge To 150 Local Agencies Such As, Soup Kitchens, Shelters And Food Pantries. By Rescuing These Products, We Are Able To Help Feed At-Risk Children, Families And Senior Citizens Living In Poverty, While Eliminating The Waste Of Good Healthy Food, That Otherwise Would Have Gone Into The Land Fills. Forgotten Harvest Understands The Vast Changes That Are Taking Place In The Metro Detroit Area, And Is Experiencing An Increase In The Need Of Local Agencies Requesting Additional Food To Help Feed The Hungry. Despite Our Tremendous Growth In Service, There Are Still Too Many Metro Detroit Area Children, Families And Senior Citizens Still Going Hungry, While Large Quantities Of, Highly Nutritious Foods Are Being Discarded. Forgotten Harvest Is Dedicated To Finding New Donors, Additional Sources Of Nutritious Food And The Resources Necessary To Address The Problem.
